spam filtering
Any thoughts on filtering spam?

See http://emailman.newsgrouphosting.com/Forum.aspx and http://newsreaders.newsgrouphosting.com/Forum.aspx

Both are overrun with spam.

Thanks,

Andrew

Re: spam filtering
You can add filters to keep spam to a minimum.  We provide a number of rules that you can apply to automatically reject messages.  A few key rules you may wish to apply are "limiting articles over a specific size" (usually 10240-20480bytes is acceptable), "Limit crossposting of articles" (usually 2-4 would allow valid use but kill spam), "Limit articles with certain header values" (set to eliminate Subject lines containing $ and FREE and a few others will reduce spam).  Be sure to add a descriptive error message so valid users can correct and post successfully.

Unfortunately, spam is a constant battle on any public forum.  The only way to ensure no spam is posted is to require all users to register and login to post messages or moderate your newsgroups.
