I run my MPNews installation as forums in association with my website. A
number of years ago, on a mailing list, we had an 'in-character' debate,
along the lines of the Federalist/Anti-Federalist Papers (the debate
over the U.S. Constitution of 1787).  I would like to run a similar
debate, but on my forums instead of on the mailing list. However, some
testing revealed that I CANNOT set the display name for the
currently-being-posted message to a character alias without making it a
'permanent' (and forum-wide) change; the message will be displayed with
the user-profile setting for display name and email.

I understand that a feature such as I describe is potentially abusable;
I feel that addressing such abuse, if it happens, is the administrator's
responsibility, not the software's.

Ideally, this would be an option that could be set for each newsgroup
separately on each virtual server, separately, defaulting to NOT
ALLOWED.  I would have no complaint, however, even if the option were to
be a single installation-wide option.
